Dr. Yance Arizona

Biography

Dr. Yance Arizona, S.H., M.H., M.A. is a legal scholar and academic who earned his Ph.D. from the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance and Society, Leiden University, the Netherlands. He also holds a Master of Arts degree from the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law, Spain, as well as a Master’s degree in Constitutional Law from the University of Indonesia. His legal education began with a Bachelor of Laws from Universitas Andalas.

In addition to his formal education, Dr. Yance Arizona has participated in several international programs, including the Indigenous Studies Summer Program at Columbia University, United States (2014), the Bhears Environmental Leadership Program at the University of California, Berkeley, United States (2013), and the Agrarian Transition for Rural Development program at the Institute of Social Studies, the Netherlands (2011).

Dr. Yance Arizona is currently a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and serves as Director of the Center for Democracy, Constitution, and Human Rights Studies (PANDEKHA). He also serves as Chair of the Presidium of the Indonesian Association of Socio-Legal Studies (ASSLESI).

His areas of expertise include constitutional law, forestry and agrarian law, business and human rights, Indigenous peoples’ rights, and electoral governance. Dr. Yance Arizona has extensive experience as a consultant and expert advisor for international organizations such as UNDP, ILO, Charapa, RSPO, and FSC, as well as for Indonesian government institutions, including the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), the Ministry of Forestry, Bappenas, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, and the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
